Issue 1935 – Where is the joy?- March 12, 2026

In the minds (and lives) of many people in the church, I’ve accepted Jesus, so I’m going to heaven. Signed. Sealed. Delivered. Done. That’s everything. They are missing joy/
While I believe that’s the only way you get to heaven, and avoiding Hell is a good reason to become a believer, that isn’t all our faith walk is about. People who hold that belief are missing out on so much.
The Christian life is about so much more. It’s the journey. To paraphrase something from The Westminster Catechism, at the end of the day, we’re here to live for God and to genuinely delight in him — and that never stops.
Don’t just endure the path — there’s real goodness to be found in the walking of it. Once we are believers, our spot in heaven is reserved. Then the process of being made holy, more like Jesus, begins.
Why did Jesus come?
The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy. I came that they may have life and have it abundantly. John 10:10
To give us abundant life, not just in the afterlife, but this one as well. Abundance isn’t always material abundance; it is the joy of walking with Him daily, experiencing the growth (even in the painful times), and rejoicing at what He is doing. He created us for joy.
He has given us the Spirit and the Word to guide us. He has given us the church to fellowship with, serve, learn from, grow in, and rejoice with. The path might be narrow, but we’re never alone on it.
Every single day is a gift and a blessing from God. Let’s learn to make the most of each one of them. The pilgrimage itself is a gift, not just the promised land at its end.
Remember that every mile holds its own small gladness, if we have eyes to see it. May you have open eyes.
Be blessed
Kevin
