What’s with the Different Christians? March 11, 2026

The diversity of bird life just around our tiny feeder never ceases to amaze me. I’ve identified 34 species in the yard alone, not counting various hawks, swans, eagles, and more that have flown over. Last week I saw two female evening grosbeaks for the first time.
When you consider all the nearly 11,000 known species of birds there are around the world, that’s a tiny list. For one suburban back yard, its quite a few.
They are all different, but they are all still birds.
It works that way with Christians, too. Now, I am talking of true Christians here, people who have been born again. There are plenty of individuals and churches that claim the name Christian but will be eternally disappointed come judgment day.
There are significant differences in practice and theology among Christians. Yet we all have one thing in common … our acceptance of Jesus Christ as Lord.
There are strengths and weaknesses within the church due to the diversity of practices and styles. There is strength in diversity because different people feel comfortable in different places. There is weakness in the same diversity because it often leads to infighting amongst groups that are Christian.
All believers are called to unity.
Be blessed

Romans 15:5-6
I therefore, a prisoner for the Lord, urge you to walk in a manner worthy of the calling to which you have been called, with all humility and gentleness, with patience, bearing with one another in love, eager to maintain the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace. There is one body and one Spirit—just as you were called to the one hope that belongs to your call— one Lord, one faith, one baptism, one God and Father of all, who is over all and through all and in all. Ephesians 4:1-6
The problem with the idea of unity is that we often get confused is in our thinking. Unity is not the same as uniformity. Nowhere do the Scriptures call us to be all the same. Yes, we need to hold to our individual convictions. Yes, we need to be cautious about our doctrine and theology. At the same time, though, we need to recognize valid differences and remember that “those people” are our eternal brothers and sisters.
We all like to think that “our way” is the best way. I think if God called suddenly for uniformity rather than unity, we would all be in for a very rude awakening.
Until next time, praise God for unity in Spirit and the freedom to be individuals at the same time.
Be blessed
Kevin
